  • UnitedHealthcare has reached an agreement with its regulator, the New York State Department of Financial Services, to reimburse students who were overcharged premiums during the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 plan years, as the rates used for certain student 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 plan years were incorrect and an overpayment of insurance premium was applied to some student’s UnitedHealthcare Student Resources insurance account. UnitedHealthcare has since worked with the State of New York to address the issue around these student plan rates and have implemented changes to ensure the prevention of similar issues in the future. You may be eligible to receive a refund if you were an impacted student.

  • Impacted students include those who had an overpayment of insurance premium applied to their UnitedHealthcare Student Resources Insurance accounts due to the rates used for certain 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 plan years being incorrect. If you received a notice, you are likely eligible to receive a refund.

  • Payments will be issued on a rolling basis as election forms are filed and processed. If you do not make a payment election (or otherwise update your contact information), you will be mailed your refund by check to the address that we have for you on file after the deadline of August 6, 2024.

  • If you received a mailed or emailed Notice, you may elect to receive your refund by electronic payment (via a virtual debit card) or by mailed check. To submit your payment preference (including updating your mailing address), please click “Election Form” by August 6, 2024. If you do not make a payment election (or otherwise update your contact information), you will be mailed your refund by check to the address that we have for you on file.

  • If you chose the virtual debit card option, we will issue you a new prepaid virtual debit card. Selecting virtual debit card does not mean direct deposit into your bank account. Please review the terms and conditions here: Virtual Debit Card Terms
